Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed Rhinoplasty

Do you know what this surgery is? Do you know the advantages of closed rhinoplasty or preservation rhinoplasty? Today we want to tell you what it is and why this technique may be the most appropriate.

What is a closed rhinoplasty?

The nose is one of the most important aesthetic features of our face. Many of the patients visit dentists are because they want to improve the appearance of their nose; or because they have a prominent, narrow or crooked nose with respiratory problems etc. A rhinoplasty is an intervention of the nose, a facial surgery that corrects the functional problems of the nose to breathe or improves its aesthetics.

ORIGINS OF THIS SURGERY

Rhinoplasty has evolved generation after generation thanks to the innovation of some surgeons. At the beginning of the 20th century, Dr. Joseph founded the basis for current rhinoplasty. It was a resective surgery of the nasal dorsum, that is: it was cut. At the end of the last century, Dr. Sheen transformed rhinoplasty into a well-standardized cosmetic surgery operation, with prior surgical planning based on facial analysis and incorporating augmentation techniques with cartilage grafts, thus expanding the range of surgical possibilities.

THE ADVANTAGES OF CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

After a twentieth century of surgeries where the intervention was aimed at modifying the nasal dorsum to improve the patient’s quality of life. We are currently experiencing a revolution in this field with closed rhinoplasty.

WHAT DOES IT CONSIST OF?

Closed rhinoplasty goes far beyond the simple use of ultrasonic scalpel. We seek to perform a minimally invasive approach, with completely anatomical dissection planes, respecting nasal cartilage, ligaments and nasal muscles; with the fundamental difference that treats the nasal back without needing to cut it and reconstruct it later.

LESS INVASIVE AND WITH A BETTER POSTOPERATIVE

The closed rhinoplasty is not only a minimally invasive procedure that respects the structures anatomical fundamentals (nerves, ligaments nasal cartilage) – it is also associated with less postoperative inflammation and therefore a recovery and visibility of the fastest results. It is also associated with an improvement in respiratory function without the need to perform grafts thanks to the opening of the internal nasal valve that is associated with this technique. Currently, with preservation rhinoplasty, we have a new way of focusing nose surgery. We are at the beginning of a revolution and we will soon see more indications, more technical refinements, and of course, more demand from patients, which are ultimately the maximum beneficiaries of preservation rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty.
