Dental Bridges in Aventura, Pembroke Pines and Hallandale Beach, FL

What are fixed dental bridges?

A fixed dental bridge is a type of restoration that replaces a missing tooth. The bridge typically has two abutments, which are attached to surrounding teeth, and a pontic, or fake tooth, in the middle. Bridges can last for over a decade if they are cared for properly and if you follow proper oral hygiene techniques. The bridge procedure is similar to placing a crown, but with more teeth involved.

Why would you need a fixed dental bridge?

You may be told that you need a fixed dental bridge if you’re completely missing a tooth and you’re not a good candidate to have a dental implant surgically placed. Bridges are made out of tooth-colored materials, so they blend in nicely with the rest of your smile. The bridge can be placed anywhere in the mouth, whether it is a posterior (back) tooth that’s affected or an anterior (front) tooth. Our goal is to enhance your natural smile using a suitable fixed bridge.

What makes you a candidate for a fixed dental bridge?

Most often, if you are eligible for a dental implant, we will recommend this procedure because it does not require compromising healthy teeth. However, some people don’t want an implant or aren’t eligible for surgery. In this case, we will recommend having a dental bridge placed. These restorations are durable, long-lasting and can provide you with an even smile.

What happens during the fixed dental bridge procedure?

You will receive anesthetic of your choice to have the bridge work done. Next, the surrounding teeth will be smoothed down to provide room for the bridge to be placed on top. Dental impressions are taken by our staff and these impressions are used to create a temporary bridge and a permanent one. You will go home the very same day as your appointment with a temporary bridge. You’ll need to come back in for the permanent to be placed on top of the abutment teeth. The bridge is smoothed down to make it more comfortable and to improve your actual bite.

If you think you might need a fixed dental bridge or want to have an older bridge replaced, call our office so that our helpful staff can get you scheduled with an appointment.
